About Lara
Lara Curry serves as a Project Manager at Keller, a geotech foundation drilling company and the world's largest drilling firm, in its North America branch. Based in the Austin, Texas office, she oversees projects ranging from Waco to San Antonio, including major developments such as data centers, skyscrapers, stadiums, and oil refineries. With almost a decade in construction, Lara began as a field engineer for two and a half years, advanced to lead project engineer on specialty projects for six years, and has been managing projects for the past two years. She holds a degree in geology and draws on a paleontology background, having started her career with Skanska on the Metro Purple Line extension in Los Angeles. Lara attributes her professional achievements to a strong work ethic, consistently putting in long hours and volunteering for demanding assignments even when others took time off. She advises young women entering the industry to embrace their unique perspectives as multitaskers and forward-thinking planners, and to confidently use their voices at the table.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Lara
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to just putting in the work and grinding it out. While friends were traveling and taking time off, I was getting to work and putting in the long hours. I was always the first one to volunteer for weekend work and the big projects. It's truly just putting in the hours and the work.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be scared or intimidated to be the only woman in the room. Women bring a different perspective and are better multitaskers and planners. We have an extra edge of being more forward-thinking for long-term growth on projects. You're already at the table so use your voice and know you have equal rights to be there.
