LaShana Sorrell, MBA, APR is a purpose-driven marketing and public relations leader with more than 18 years of experience helping brands find their voice and connect with audiences in meaningful ways. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, she has led strategic communications and brand initiatives across higher education, healthcare, food service, public safety, and nonprofit organizations, building trust and driving engagement through impactful storytelling.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my relationship with God and the strong network of people I’ve built along the way. Faith grounds me, and meaningful relationships have provided support, perspective, and opportunities for growth throughout my journey.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always be firm, fair, and consistent, and to remain a lifelong learner. Those principles have guided how I lead, grow, and adapt throughout my career.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering my industry to ask—don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek clarity. Be bold, stay curious, and advocate for yourself as you learn and grow.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the field right now is navigating the rapid rise of AI, the pressure to go viral on social media, and the increasing reliance on paid advertising. At the same time, there is a major opportunity in better integrating marketing, advertising, and public relations to create more cohesive, strategic, and impactful communication.

Integrity is the most important value in both my work and personal life. It guides my decisions, builds trust, and ensures I show up consistently and authentically in everything I do.
