Q

What do you attribute your success to?

For over two decades, LaShaun has been the driving force behind countless professional transformations. With 20 years of experience in HR, she launched The Career Academy in 2015, offering career coaching and a keen eye for "bringing out the story" in a resume. Understanding the hurdles of entrepreneurship—from securing an EIN to structuring a business—she created a comprehensive 16-point guide to help others launch with confidence. Yet, LaShaun’s influence extends beyond career placement. Having overcome a childhood stutter through speech therapy, she has transformed her voice into a powerful asset, now commanding the stage as a public speaker to advocate for financial literacy and credit education. Whether she is conducting a mock interview or teaching someone to build a powerful credit profile, LaShaun’s greatest joy remains the same: she simply wants people to win.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to stop waiting for permission and own my expertise. Once I did that, opportunities didn’t just come to me—I created them.”

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to trust themselves, stay consistent, and keep learning. This industry rewards those who show up with confidence, integrity, and a willingness to grow.”

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

“One of the biggest challenges across careers, business, and credit today is the lack of true education and alignment—many people are working, earning, or even building businesses without fully understanding how to position themselves financially or professionally. The opportunity, however, is powerful: by educating individuals on how their career, business, and credit all work together, we can help them create not just income, but long-term wealth and stability.”

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm always a people person and always the cheerleader. I want people to win. That's what drives everything I do. Whether I'm working on resumes, doing mock interviews, helping someone start a business, or teaching credit education, it all comes back to the people. I like to bring out the story in a resume because your resume is your representative until you actually get to the job interview. I prepare people for behavioral interviews so they can think on their feet and answer questions about conflict resolution and problem-solving. I want to set people up for success with powerful credit profiles, 401Ks, brokerage accounts, and high-yield savings accounts. I don't want them to be caught off guard by unexpected car repairs or job loss. My family is my world - my husband, my three children, and my three grandchildren. I'm heavily involved in my sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho, INC. where I've been a member for 36 years. I love spending time with my best friend, my husband, my biggest supporter, and we travel a lot together. I focus deeply on what matters most to me.
