Ten minutes with Latanya
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the resilience, determination, and work ethic instilled in me by the hardworking women who came before me. Their dedication and sacrifices shaped my perspective and inspired me to create a different path by changing the narrative of my lineage. I am proud to have the ability to pivot, build a business, and create opportunities for myself and my children that were not always available to the women who raised me. My success is driven by a commitment to growth, perseverance, and the belief that I can use my experiences to create lasting impact for future generations.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that there is power in the pivot. In an ever-changing world, being adaptable and willing to embrace new opportunities is essential for growth. I have learned not to be afraid to shift directions, explore new paths, and recognize the value in the skills and experiences I already possess. I believe that almost everything we do has the potential to be positioned and communicated effectively, which is why learning how to market yourself, showcase your strengths, and tell your story is critical to building a successful career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the social media and digital marketing industry is to remain open to growth and never be afraid to pivot. Social media is much more than influencing or being the face of a brand; there are many different career paths and opportunities within the industry, from content strategy and analytics to project management, community engagement, and brand operations. Take the time to explore the different lanes available, identify where your strengths align, and remember that you can make a significant impact behind the scenes by developing strategies, managing content, and helping brands tell their stories. The key is to stay curious, continue learning, and create a path that aligns with your unique skills and goals.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in entrepreneurship and the digital marketing industry is building a strong community of like-minded individuals, especially when you do not come from a background where entrepreneurship was common. The journey can sometimes feel isolating, and the responsibility of managing every aspect of a business without traditional benefits, paid time off, or a built-in safety net can be challenging. However, those challenges also create incredible opportunities for growth, flexibility, and independence. One of the most rewarding aspects of entrepreneurship is the ability to create a career that aligns with your lifestyle, whether that means working from anywhere in the world, having greater control over your time, or building something meaningful that reflects your vision and values.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, authenticity, and staying true to my principles. I believe in trusting my instincts, leading with honesty, and making decisions that align with my values and morals. I am intentional about the brands, organizations, and partnerships I support, choosing to work with those that reflect respect, inclusivity, and positive impact. I will not compromise my beliefs for financial gain or opportunities that conflict with my values, including those that negatively affect communities, cultures, or individuals. As an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and a strong advocate for creating inclusive spaces, I believe success is not just measured by achievements, but by the impact we make and the values we uphold along the way.
