Her Story

About Latanya

I've been cooking for 26 years, starting when I was young after my mom stopped cooking for me and told me I had to learn. I would watch her prepare meals and realized this was something I wanted to do. I started in fast food and eventually moved into nursing homes and hospitals, which I love. Currently, I work at a retirement center through the hospital in Valdosta, Georgia, where I've been for 2 years. I get extraordinary feedback from senior citizens, and I think it's very important to get their feedback because their taste in food changes. I ask them what types of food they prefer to see on the menu and what they'd like to see more of, and I go from there. I love cooking pastas, especially shrimp pasta and chicken alfredo with asparagus. I've grown in my cooking, learning about natural herbs, different kinds of food from different backgrounds. I'm certified in hospitality and am looking forward to completing my ServSafe certification in the fall.
