Her Story
About LaTarsha
I started my career in finance and banking around 2010, beginning with auto financing and banking, though when I think back to servicing, it was probably even longer than that. My banking expertise is mainly in mortgage where I am someone that learned to process loans and guide borrowers through the loan process to get their loans closed. During the mortgage industry shortfall, I did loan modifications where I orchestrated short sales and loan modifications, negotiating with attorneys and different things like that to try to get the loan re-established or paid off. I then navigated to Bank of America where I really honed in a lot of my skills, staying there for a little over 3 years as a loan processor. I had to underwrite loans, so I had my SASE authority there, and we were very strict with the Bank Secrecy Act. From there, I went into construction loans, which are very interesting, especially if you're dealing with New York laws when building a home. My banking industry experience is very diverse, from debit and credit cards to mortgage banking and looking at the financial picture overall when it comes to a mortgage profile. After being laid off in 2022 when the mortgage industry went quiet in North Carolina, I had to reinvent the wheel. I understood mortgage was my passion, so I did research to find out where the mortgage industry was healthy and found out that Dallas, Texas was like a big mortgage mecca. I packed everything and moved from North Carolina to Dallas, Texas in March 2024. I'm currently working on the consumer side, and in the next 5 years, I would like to hone my skills on the business aspect of mortgage, like construction loans and builder loans. I see myself in a leadership position in that role, probably a VP in loan operations.

01What do you attribute your success to?
God is my first key to my success. Everything I do, I commit to God, and I have found that has brought me a lot of success. If not success, I've received favor. If you put your mind on Him, and you commit your ways to Him, you will have success. That's my key. Beyond that, hard work is essential. I also believe in faith, family, and focus. When you focus on faith, you focus on the people you love, and you have the focus on your passion, it will always bring success.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn as much as you can. With the mortgage industry, it can be up and down, so my advice to anyone going into the mortgage industry is to stay with it, don't hop around. Stay with that bank, try to grow upward in the ladder in banking, get your foot into some underwriting. Learning underwriting is very beneficial, because that shows that you understand the loan structure and how it should look, you understand regulations and guidelines. Learn the different programs. If you're going to do residential, decide whether you're gonna do residential or consumer. I wish I would have did consumer more so than residential. It does depend on where you live. Make sure where they live, residential-wise, that the mortgage industry is healthy in that area. You don't want to fall into a situation like I did, where I had got laid off in 2022, so I had to reinvent the wheel. I understood mortgage was my passion, so I ended up relocating to Texas after doing research to find out where the mortgage industry was healthy.
