Ten minutes with Latisha
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Trust myself and always create a checklist, whether it's digital or... With human resources, it's a lot to do with compliance... Any type of, records that you're keeping, or when you're dealing with people, in sensitive situations, you want to handle that with care, including, not only connecting with the people, not just having it to be transactional. But really understanding where they are, and maybe the service you have to deliver, and then documenting properly. And then making sure that You are in compliance with federal, state, or local law over that organization's policies and procedures.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Join an association. Get with a group... find your community. And find primary resources for your industry, and also the HR industry... if you did not go to school for human resources, at least get your certification in human resources from a university, not from an association... Study, and you know what the best practices are and why.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Finding the autonomy... People not being aware of how they're impacting the world... getting business owners, leadership in companies to see the value in people. That's been the biggest challenge for me.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Love what you're doing... A great environment, meaning Being around people that are genuine. So, authenticity is a huge value for me. Also, treating people appropriately... Connection is another value for me... Having the ability to or the autonomy to grow, the autonomy to create, the autonomy to just be yourself, Having room for that.
