Her Story

About Latisha

Latisha Page has been working as a surgical tech for close to 18 years, with the past 8 years at her current level 2 trauma center. She began her career later in life after overcoming significant personal challenges, including growing up as an orphan with dyslexia and recovering from a car accident that left her partially paralyzed. Page is dual certified in surgical technology and first assist through NBSCSA, and she earned an associate's degree from Concord, surgical assist training from Meridian, and a bachelor's in healthcare administration from Capella University, where she made the president's and dean's lists. In addition to her hospital role, she works part-time with a medical device company, teaches students, and runs a CPR instruction business to empower community youth. She is an active member of the Association of Surgical Technologists, the Florida State Assembly for Surgical Tech, and the Academy of Surgeons, and she has volunteered with Victory Chapel Church for over 20 years on community outreach initiatives. Page attributes her success to her motivation, passion, faith, and desire to serve as an example for younger generations.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Latisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

My motivation and passion for what I do, my faith in God, being an example for students and the younger generation, and my background where I came from. Knowing that if other people can make it, you can make it no matter what. Being told you can't do something pushes me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Keep a good heart, stay positive, smile and say hi to everyone you cross paths with because you never know what they're going through. Acknowledge every single person.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Make sure this is your dream and you're passionate about it. There will be struggles but push yourself. Keep fighting, adapt to situations, be a team player, stay positive and be that light.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Biggest challenge is lack of passion and care in healthcare, people distracted by phones and not focusing on patients. Biggest opportunity is many job openings, always opportunities to grow, technology and AI changing the field but it will never go away.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Be who you are, don't change for anyone else. Stay happy and motivated, don't let anyone dictate your joy. In patient care, treat every patient as if they were your family member. Stay professional.
