Her Story

About LaTivia

LaTivia is an accomplished healthcare executive, Chief Nursing Officer, and transformational leader with nearly 30 years of experience in healthcare. Her passion for caregiving began at the age of eight while helping care for her grandmother who was living with end-stage dementia. That formative experience inspired a lifelong commitment to serving vulnerable populations and ultimately led her to pursue a career in nursing. Beginning her healthcare journey as a Certified Nursing Assistant while attending nursing school, LaTivia developed a deep understanding of patient care and the critical role healthcare professionals play during life's most vulnerable moments.

Today, LaTivia is recognized for her expertise in nursing executive leadership, professional development, and organizational transformation. As a board-certified Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC), Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), and Certified Executive Coach (CEC), she is known for her visionary leadership style, ability to develop high-performing teams, and commitment to cultivating future healthcare leaders. Throughout her career, she has successfully led organizations to achieve Magnet designation three times and has consistently delivered top-decile outcomes in quality, patient safety, and care delivery. Her strengths as a strategic thinker, problem solver, and communicator have enabled her to create cultures of excellence while empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential.

In addition to her executive leadership role, LaTivia is a thought leader, mentor, and advocate for authentic leadership in healthcare. She recently published her first book, *The Chrysalis Calling*, which explores personal transformation, leadership growth, and the power of leading with authenticity and purpose. A dedicated servant leader, she remains passionate about advancing the nursing profession, strengthening healthcare organizations, and developing the next generation of leaders. As she prepares to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Grand Canyon University, LaTivia continues to inspire others through her commitment to excellence, innovation, and compassionate leadership.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received was to stay curious and to vlaue relationships over being right.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Come in with an open mind and an open heart. Be flexible, be teachable. Understand that the work that you're doing is important, and what you can expect is change. Be nimble and be willing to change, and also use your voice. Leverage your experience and use your voice. You are here for a reason, and everything that you have and you've brought with you are gifts that we need. So bring your whole self and lean in.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges right now is navigating the increasing needs of an aging population with the challenges of a shrinking nursing workforce. We are at the crux of a nursing shortage, yet the needs of our community continue to increase as older adults are living longer. We need to ensure that we have not just the hands available to care for this more complex population, but that they are well equipped with the right skills to provide adequate care, while also attending to their mental and physical needs. We are living in a time where mental health and some of the pressures of life are really impacting our society, with wars, the cost of living increasing, and finite resources. Being able to balance all of those things while keeping morale high and meeting individual needs is probably one of the greatest challenges. But it's also a place where I find that authentic leadership is most impactful, because I recognize those challenges and I'm not tone-deaf to what my teams and my community is facing. I walk alongside them, and we work together to find workable and reasonable solutions that are fiscally responsible.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, compassion, collaboration, and accountability.
