About Latonia
Latonia Christian is a seasoned financial operations professional serving as the Financial Operations Manager for Fairfax County Government, where she oversees the financial operations of the county’s 23 public libraries. In this role, she manages key financial functions, including grants administration, procurement, and financial support for library renovations and new construction projects. With more than three decades of experience in the field, Christian has developed extensive expertise in financial administration, local government operations, and organizational management. Prior to her current role, she served in Fairfax County’s Administration of Human Services, supporting Youth and Family Mental Health Services.
Christian earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Information Systems from George Mason University, where she received the Academic Achievement Award in recognition of her strong academic performance. She also holds a Bookkeeping Certification in Accounting and Finance from Northern Virginia Community College. Her professional experience and educational background have provided her with a strong foundation in financial operations, administration, communication, and strategic organizational support. She remains engaged with George Mason University as an alumna and values the importance of continuous learning and professional development.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Christian is deeply committed to serving her community and helping others. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, her church, the Good Fight of Faith food pantry, the No Child Left Behind program, women's shelters, and Volunteer for Rex. Passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of others, she is dedicated to supporting causes related to economic empowerment, health, and social services. Christian encourages young women entering her industry to pursue their goals with dedication, resourcefulness, confidence, and a commitment to continuous growth.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the mentors who have supported and encouraged me throughout my journey, particularly a professor who believed in me during difficult times and my grandparents, who instilled in me the importance of perseverance. Their guidance and example have shaped my approach to both personal and professional growth. I also believe in paying that support forward by mentoring younger colleagues in my office, offering guidance, sharing resources, and helping them develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering my industry to understand that success does not always come easily, but with determination and the right support, it is achievable. Take the time to learn about the resources available to you and seek out the guidance and assistance you need to grow. If you have a genuine passion for helping others, as I do, this can be an incredibly rewarding career path. Ultimately, finding fulfillment in the work you do makes the challenges worthwhile and can lead to a meaningful and successful career.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are service, compassion, and a commitment to helping others. I believe in giving back to my community and actively support a variety of causes and nonprofit organizations through volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, my church, the Good Fight of Faith food pantry, the No Child Left Behind program in Fairfax County, alumni organizations, Volunteer for Facts, and women's shelters. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of compassion, community involvement, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
