About Latonya
I've been working in broadcast journalism for about 14 years now. I studied journalism with a concentration in broadcast at Indiana University, Bloomington, and I always thought I wanted to be on air, like a writer or a photographer. But after I had my first internship in Indianapolis in 2012, I met my mentor who was working as a producer at the time, and she introduced me to what producing really is. She told me there are more jobs in the newsroom besides being on air, and she started training me as a producer. After I got out of school, I looked for reporter and producer jobs and had a difficult time. I actually worked at Sallie Mae for more than a year in customer resolution, dealing with student loans that have gone into default. Then my mentor came back to Indianapolis and informed me of a job opportunity at the Fox station there, and that was all she wrote. I got my first job in news there and just made my way up the ladder in the newsroom ever since then. Now I live in St. Louis, and I'm an executive producer at the CBS affiliate. I'm the nightside executive producer, and I lead one of the top CBS local newscasts in the country, our 10 p.m. newscast.
