About Latricia
Latricia Vessel serves as CEO and billing manager of Harmony Billing, the consulting company she founded and has operated for two and a half years. Her career in EMS began in 2000 as a QMS dispatcher, advancing to dispatch supervisor and then billing manager and office manager. After completing billing school, she joined Express Billing, where she worked for seven years specializing in EMS billing before starting her own firm. In addition to running her business, Vessel sits on the board of the College of Healthcare Professions, training graduating students in medical billing and coding. She credits her parents' work ethics for her success and maintains a strong personal work ethic of dedicating long hours until tasks are complete. Vessel values honesty, transparency, and accountability in her client relationships and seeks valuable business partnerships with providers who are open to ongoing education. Her future plans include expanding training programs through the College of Healthcare Professions and partnering with the Women's Domestic Center to teach billing skills and support CAC certification for women seeking employment.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Latricia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success I would say that would come from my parents, because their work ethics. And my work ethic, even though I have my own company, I vowed to myself that if I was gonna work for anyone else, and I could give them 12 or 16 hours, whether I'm working for myself or not, I'm for sure gonna give myself 12, 16, 24, whatever it is. So, to me, if there's work that needs to be done, there's really not a turn-off time until that situation is handled. I thank my mom and dad every day for the work values that they gave us.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received is Whatever you believe that you can do. Just put your first foot forward. Don't think about it too much, just start coming up with your rough draft, do whatever, as much as you can to put into the business, and I think once you do that, everything else will follow. It's that first step that's the hardest part. That's the scariest part, the first step.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge for me is to stay above the trend, get out there and market and get the business, but I don't want all business. I want valuable business. I want to deal with people who know something about healthcare when I'm doing their billing. ... I try to make sure whoever I deal with, that they're willing to receive the education, because if they're willing to receive the education, we can grow together.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
So in my work and personal life, I believe in just general morals. You know, treat people like how you want to be treated. When it comes to my client, I believe in being honest and transparent about everything. And if something is wrong, I believe in being accountable for the things that you do do wrong, and leave yourself, you know, room for error and to fix it, but always be accountable for the things that you do.
