Her Story

About Laura

I've been working in medical sales for almost 3 years now, and I currently work for Zoll as a Territory Manager covering all of Volusia and Flagler County. I sell a wearable cardioverter defibrillator in the cardio space, going into hospitals and private clinics to represent the company. Before joining Zoll, I worked for LynnCare selling a different product in the pulmonology space. Medical sales has been my goal since high school - I've always been interested in the medical field but never really wanted to be a doctor. I loved the idea of being in sales where every single day is different. Being a competitive gymnast my whole life gave me that competitive drive that's so important in sales. During my junior year of college, I started pursuing this career path seriously, and I knew it was competitive to get into. I applied to LynnCare and switched to fully online classes so I could work full-time while finishing my bachelor's degree. As soon as I graduated, I applied to Zoll, which required a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of medical sales experience. I'm proud to be the youngest territory manager in my whole company. When I meet people, they're often surprised by how young I am and how quickly I've accelerated in this field. Sometimes going into places can be nerve-wracking being the youngest, but it's also a confidence thing, knowing that I was able to achieve this much already.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just say, like, don't be afraid to go after it, and just really prepare yourself. I think, you know, sometimes, like, you have to be willing to work hard, and just don't be afraid to put your all into it. I don't think that females should have to shy away from medical device sales because it's a male-dominated field. There's no reason why it needs to be a male-dominated field. You don't need to be afraid to do it because you're a woman - that shouldn't make you not want to do that. I think you just gotta put your foot down and not be afraid to really show them that you are intelligent and that you do know what you're talking about.
