Ten minutes with Laura
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to maintaining a positive attitude and persevering through challenges, even when they seem insurmountable. Systems thinking has been invaluable throughout my career, allowing me to approach problems holistically rather than in isolation. Equally important, I never lose sight of the fact that business is ultimately about people. Taking care of others, ensuring teams embrace a shared vision, listening to feedback, and supporting those around me have all been essential to my success. Looking at problems systematically while genuinely caring for people has made a tremendous difference throughout my career.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women entering the technology field to create a sense of belonging, even when they may find themselves in the minority. It is important to seek out mentors, teachers, and supporters who reinforce that you belong and can succeed. Having people who encourage and affirm your place can make a tremendous difference, and I believe everyone deserves to feel that they have a place where they can thrive.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is the biggest challenge and opportunity in my field. It's going to revolutionize everything. But what we've got to remember is that it's not just a technical problem - it's a human problem. I mean that in the problem sense, not that people are problems, but we really have to think about the practical, intentional application of these tools. We've got to think about the implications of using these tools, and we've got to find a way to bring our workforce along with us in a good way. The challenge and opportunity is making sure we're implementing AI thoughtfully and bringing people along with the transformation.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value positivity, systems thinking, and people-first leadership. I believe in listening to others, caring for people, and creating environments where teams can thrive. Supporting others, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that people feel valued are principles that guide both my professional and personal life. I believe meaningful success comes from helping others succeed and maintaining a mindset that embraces challenges with optimism and compassion.
