Her Story

About Laura

Laura Moya is an attorney representing San Francisco, California, with expertise in customs and international trade law. She focuses on tariffs and import-export matters, areas that have gained prominence in recent years. Moya began her legal career in 2019 after earning a master's degree from Chapman University, which she pursued from 2017 to 2019 following her bachelor's degree from the University of Bucharest in Romania in 2016. She is also a certified mediator and holds the Esquire credential. Currently, Moya practices at the small local firm Nakacci Eckhart Jacobson in Northern California, where she has worked for nearly two years after previously practicing remotely with the law offices of Robert W. Snyder in Irvine. She values always doing the best for her clients, being honest and straightforward, and setting clear expectations, even when that means referring a matter elsewhere. Moya attributes her success to hard work and not being afraid to ask questions. She notes that the profession demands attention to work-life balance given the global nature of her clients, and she encourages young women entering the field by highlighting its engaging and satisfying opportunities to become experts in niche areas of law.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Laura

01What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work, and not being afraid of asking questions. Not being afraid of asking questions, I think that's an important part.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

This is interesting, for sure. I would tell them, if they want to feel like an expert of all kinds of little, mini areas of the law. This is a very, engaging, and satisfying profession, or area. I would encourage somebody to go into your field.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Finding that work-life balance, because it is a pretty demanding profession. We work with a lot of clients from all over the world, so it's not really a 9-to-5 job all the time. Sometimes you need to accommodate a person on the other side of the globe or emergency situations.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Always doing the best for whoever it is that you're representing. Sometimes that can be kind of hard, because we always want to do the best for us, right? There's moments where stepping back, or referring the client to somebody else, even though you might want to take that, that can be in the best interest of your client. Being honest with your clients and as straightforward as possible. Setting expectations.
