Her Interview

Ten minutes with Laura

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the support of my family, great leadership at my organization including my boss and boss's boss who support education and learning, being proactive in reaching for stretch opportunities, and having mentors who encouraged leadership without a title.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be proactive, remain open to learning, pursue opportunities even when they seem outside your comfort zone, and never stop asking questions or seeking guidance from those with more experience.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep an open mind because you never know what path you'll end up on. Ask questions without fear, insert yourself, learn everything you can even if it doesn't seem relevant, put yourself out there and reach out to people in the industry. More people are willing to help than you think.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Healthcare technology continues to evolve rapidly with new digital platforms, AI, cybersecurity, and enterprise system modernization creating tremendous opportunities for innovation. One of the biggest challenges is successfully managing large-scale technology implementations while supporting end users through change. Laura believes there is also a growing opportunity for more women to step into leadership roles within healthcare IT.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency, kindness, professionalism, integrity, genuine relationships, teamwork, and continuous learning are most important. Understanding and supporting people as individuals creates stronger teams and better outcomes. I'm comfortable saying I don't know but can find out.
