About Laura
Laura is a senior associate in the transaction tax team at Weaver, where she focuses on transaction advisory and due diligence for clients involved in company acquisitions. She evaluates income tax exposures and indirect tax exposures including sales tax, payroll tax, and property tax. Laura earned her Master's in Professional Accounting from UT Austin in May 2022. Prior to Weaver, she worked at Baker Tilly preparing tax returns in a compliance role. She became a CPA by passing all exams on the first attempt while managing a full-time workload that included busy seasons exceeding 50 chargeable hours per week. In her current role, she handles data analysis, client calls, exposure quantification, and report drafting, often collaborating directly with partners.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my family: my husband, parents, and sisters. Without them, I wouldn't be able to manage being a working mom. They encouraged and supported me through college, and today they continue to show up for me when work runs late or spills into the weekend. Everyone is hands on with my daughter, and that support makes everything else possible.
I also attribute my success to everyone I've had the privilege of working with. Specifically those who have taken a chance on me and dedicated time to train me, develop me, and share their knowledge with me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't run away from uncomfortable environments. Those are the places where you're gonna learn the most. I constantly feel like I don't know anything when talking to partners, but it's a huge opportunity and if I wasn't doing this I probably wouldn't advance in my career as much. Feeling uncomfortable is gonna help you grow.
