Her Story

About Laura

I started my career as a paralegal, working for several law firms in Michigan. After someone recognized I would be good at community association management, I made the decision to move from Michigan to Florida to pursue this new opportunity. For the past 6 years, I've been managing a condominium complex in the Florida Keys, where I handle everything needed to run the association. My day-to-day responsibilities include financial management, budgeting, rentals, accounts receivable and payable, and staying current with Florida's condominium association laws and how they apply. I essentially wear all the hats for the association. My legal background and education have been instrumental in my success, and I'm proud to have achieved my Florida Licensed Community Association Manager (LCAM) credential, which is required for this position.

Ten minutes with Laura

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work and education. Those two things have been the foundation of everything I've achieved in my career. The combination of putting in the effort and continuously learning has allowed me to transition from paralegal work to community association management and excel in this field.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Failure's okay. You learn from failure. And don't be afraid to try new things as you go along and explore new opportunities. It's easy to get stuck in one place for 20-plus years, so be open to change and growth. Don't let fear hold you back from pursuing something different.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is dealing with the aftermath of the Surfside condo collapse in Florida. Due to that tragedy, there are a lot of new laws and much stricter regulations on what condominium associations can do and have to do now. It's changed the landscape of community association management significantly.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Number one, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, without a doubt. My faith is the most important value in both my work and personal life. My son is also incredibly important to me.
