About Laura

Laura Sosa serves as Owner and Principal of Lasso Design LLC, a firm she established in February 2021 in Houston, Texas. She holds a degree from the Art Institute of Houston in architecture and interior design and an MBA in construction from Dallas Baptist University. Prior to launching her practice, Sosa worked in corporate banking, where she advanced from cashier to executive roles, gaining valuable experience in customer service and business operations. Her firm specializes in residential and commercial design projects, encompassing both remodels and new construction. Sosa is a member of A&Sazon, a collective supporting first-generation American Hispanics and Latinos in architecture and design, and she hosts events to raise funds for earthquake victims in Venezuela. She credits her success to her parents, after whom she named her firm, as well as her resilience and determination not to accept no for an answer. Sosa values God above all and places family second in her personal and professional life.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Laura

01What do you attribute your success to?

My parents, after whom I named my firm Lasso. I owe them everything as a first-generation American who had to learn business from scratch. My resilience and stubbornness also play a big role - I don't take no for an answer.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

When you help one person, you're helping many. It's like a domino effect.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Network with ambitious people even if not close friends. Believe in yourself and trust yourself. Present yourself professionally because perception and first impressions matter in this visual industry. Spend money on business cards and yourself. Carry yourself in a way that commands respect.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is imposter syndrome and lack of confidence among minorities. The industry wasn't made for minorities, and seeing ourselves as big as we think we are is key. Believing in ourselves is the main hurdle.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

God is number one, family comes second.
