Lauren Cooney
Lauren Cooney (She/Her) is the Assistant Director of Creative Services – Video Production for Purdue University Athletics, where she serves as the lead videographer for the volleyball and wrestling teams. In this role, she plans and directs shoots, oversees her team, edits video content, and travels to away matches and tournaments to produce high-quality footage for social media, video boards, and recruiting. On a daily basis, Lauren ensures every event is thoroughly captured, preparing her team and coordinating production needs to deliver compelling and dynamic sports storytelling. She has been in this role for six years and has contributed to some of Purdue’s most memorable moments, including being part of the team during a Final Four appearance.
Lauren’s path into sports media began unexpectedly. Initially interested in science, she realized early in her college career that it was not the direction she wanted to pursue. After speaking with a counselor, she discovered sports videography and journalism and quickly fell in love with the craft. She began taking relevant classes, and even when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional learning, she was among the first to return to campus and take advantage of opportunities to work for her school, which helped launch her career. Notably, Lauren’s first year out of college she secured a full-time position without needing an internship, an accomplishment she cites as one of her proudest achievements.
Outside of her professional life, Lauren is passionate about creativity and family. She loves baking brownies being her specialty and is a coffee enthusiast, having purchased an espresso machine to perfect her craft. She treasures time spent with loved ones and enjoys blending her personal passions with her professional storytelling. Lauren’s journey reflects her dedication, adaptability, and love for capturing the emotion and excitement of sports, making her a respected and innovative leader in collegiate athletic media.
