Her Story

About Lauren

Lauren Everitt is a project manager in environmental services and climate action NGOs based in Jacksonville, Florida. As a college student who entered the field about four years ago during high school, she coordinates cleanup efforts for clients facing hazardous material releases, managing documentation, invoicing, and waste manifests while dispatching personnel. She also works with the Clean Energy Coalition of Jacksonville to oppose a new methane-powered gas plant by GEA and increase solar usage to over 30 percent by 2026, currently at 5 percent. Her daily activities include meetings with local officials, public meet and greets, power mapping, attending GEA board meetings, and delivering public comments. Growing up in the area, she was inspired by the loss of nature to development and initially focused on plant biodiversity before recognizing the power of environmental policy. Everitt credits mentors Samantha Catis and Susan Glickman from the Cleo Institute, along with manager Cindy Shanks, for supporting her progress.

Ten minutes with Lauren

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just get out there, being a social person, and networking, and putting your foot in the door. At such a young age I've been presented with many opportunities because I took initiative and put myself out there.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never pass an opportunity. Weigh it in a way that it's possible for you, don't put too much on your plate, but if you have the possibility, don't pass it up. It can provide you a lot of doors.
