About Lauren
I am a public servant, elected official, and program leader with over two decades of experience in criminal justice, corrections, and government administration, currently serving as a City Council Member for the City of La Porte, Indiana, a role I have held since January 2024, where I represent my community and contribute to local governance and policy-making. I also serve as Program Director for the State of Indiana, a role I have held since 2022, where I lead program initiatives and support state operations.
Prior to my current roles, I spent over twelve years at the Indiana Department of Correction in progressively responsible roles, including Parole Agent for three years, where I supervised individuals on parole, Training Coordinator for one year, where I developed and delivered training programs, Caseworker for two years, where I supported case management and rehabilitation, and Correctional Officer for six years, where I maintained safety and security in correctional facilities. I also served as Clerical Assistant at the Indiana Department of Transportation for over five years.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Indiana University Bloomington and hold an Associate of Science in Criminology from Indiana University Bloomington.
Across my career in public service, criminal justice, and government leadership, my work has been driven by a commitment to serving my community, supporting rehabilitation and public safety, and contributing to the effective functioning of state and local government. Whether I am serving as an elected city council member, leading state programs, or supporting correctional and parole operations, I bring a strategic, collaborative, and service-oriented approach that has made a lasting impact on the communities and organizations I serve. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue serving the City of La Porte and the State of Indiana in my current roles.

Ten minutes with Lauren
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to networking and building relationships. I can walk into a room by myself with 50 people and network with all of them. Building those connections puts the humanity back into government so people see me as Lauren rather than just INDOT.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do what you want to do, learn what you want to learn, be smart, be aggressive, and don't be intimidated. Women and men are equal these days. See a goal and go for it. Don't listen to what anyone says around you.
