Her Story

About Lauren

Lauren Lessley is a Field Sales Representative at Shamir Insight, a position she has held since December 2020. She brings 16 years of experience in the optical field, having begun her career after attending the Seattle Central School of Opticianery, where she earned an Associate's in Applied Sciences in Opticianry. Lauren became a licensed optician in Washington State after passing the state boards and worked in private practice settings in Sammamish, Washington, and later in a pediatric ophthalmology practice until pivoting to field sales during the pandemic for greater schedule flexibility. Her areas of specialization include lens designs and technology as well as troubleshooting difficult patient fits. She serves on the executive board of the Opticians Association of Washington as secretary since 2021 and volunteers with VOSH Northwest and the Seattle-King County Free Clinic in an optician role. Lauren attributes her success to ongoing support from managers and colleagues, dedication, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lauren

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the support I've received over the years from managers and others who help me stay on track, working for a company aligned with my goals of continuous education and growth, dedication, strong work ethic, and constantly learning from others in the field. At every stage, many people have supported me, and I always go in with the idea that the person I'm meeting knows at least one more thing than I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received in my current role is to quit trying to be a good sales rep and just be the best optician you can be, because that's what people need. Another piece is that it's just a pair of glasses, nobody's gonna die, so don't overthink it, take a deep breath, everything has a solution.
