Her Story

About Lauren

Lauren Litwin is the Founder and Educational Leadership Consultant at Ember Harbor Collective, where she creates restorative learning spaces that help educators and school leaders reflect, reconnect with their purpose, and grow professionally. With more than 14 years of experience in education, Lauren has served in roles including visual arts teacher, photography teacher, department lead, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) facilitator, student support educator, and educational leadership professional. Her career has spanned visual arts education, alternative education, restorative practices, SEL, PBIS, and educator development.

Throughout her career, Lauren has focused on strengthening the relationships and environments that shape learning. One of her notable accomplishments was helping establish a Linked Learning Pathway in Oakland, California, for students interested in visual and performing arts. She also developed experience supporting educators through professional learning, classroom climate and culture initiatives, and restorative approaches. Lauren earned her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administration from Lamar University, along with an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay, a BFA in Illustration, and a teaching credential in Visual Arts.

In August 2026, Lauren founded Ember Harbor Collective to extend her work beyond the traditional classroom and provide educators with intentional spaces for reflection, connection, and professional growth. Through facilitated learning circles, individual consultation, professional learning, and collaborative problem-solving, she supports educators and school leaders navigating school culture, staff engagement, belonging, behavior support, and sustainable educational practice. Lauren's work is grounded in her belief that when adults have the support and courage to grow, relationships change, school culture changes, and students ultimately benefit.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lauren

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to patience, observation, relationship-building, vulnerability, and learning how to establish trust. I believe in understanding people before trying to lead or influence them, while staying curious and allowing professional relationships to develop authentically.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received has come from mentors and professional relationships who taught me the importance of building relationships, earning trust, practicing patience, and recognizing the strengths each person brings to their work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to be patient, slow down, observe, and listen. Build relationships with trusted people, remain open to new opportunities, and most importantly, trust yourself and your abilities.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see educator burnout, self-doubt, vulnerability, and the need for stronger professional support systems as major challenges. At the same time, I see tremendous opportunity in the passion and hope educators continue to bring to their work. Educators may face different challenges, but their commitment to students and their profession remains strong, and that passion should be supported and sustained.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value trust, curiosity, connection, authenticity, recognition, community, and sustainable growth. My experiences in education have shown me how important it is for educators to feel seen and supported, and I believe strengthening those who work directly with students strengthens the entire educational community. I’m also passionate about visual arts, building supportive communities for educators—especially women in education—and creating meaningful experiences where people can reconnect, recharge, and learn from one another. Family is also an important part of my life.
