Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the discipline, resilience, and time management I developed through athletics, which have carried over into every stage of my career. Completing an accelerated nursing program required persistence, sacrifice, and the ability to stay focused under pressure. I’ve also been fortunate to have strong support from managers, professors, and mentors who guided and encouraged me along the way.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Early in my career, I received a lot of conflicting advice from clinicians—some encouraged nursing for work-life balance, while others suggested becoming a physician for higher pay. Ultimately, the most valuable lesson I took from that was to make decisions based on my own values, strengths, and personality rather than external opinions.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to ask questions, build a strong professional network, and actively seek out mentors. It’s important to prioritize balance and take care of yourself while growing in your career. Also, don’t underestimate the power of quiet leadership—being supportive, approachable, and dependable can have a lasting impact.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in nursing informatics is gaining entry into the field, as many roles require prior experience, yet it can be difficult to find opportunities to build that experience. At the same time, there is a major opportunity to improve clinical workflows and integrate technology, such as real-time vital sign documentation, to reduce the burden on clinicians and enhance patient care.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are meaningful service, giving back, empathy, and maintaining balance. I also prioritize discipline and resilience, as they help me navigate challenges while staying grounded in both my professional and personal life.
