What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having an incredible mentor early in my career at Howard University. When I started as an HRIS assistant, I met this really cool director who wanted to show me different things about technology. He would give me a lot of books to read and show me different articles to read, and that's how I ended up transitioning into PeopleSoft. I would practice with his tutelage, and he was such a great mentor that he totally inspired me not only to get into PeopleSoft but also to pursue my MBA. That mentorship and guidance really set the foundation for everything that followed in my career. Having someone believe in me and invest time in teaching me made all the difference in helping me build a successful career spanning over 10 years in technology.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The biggest opportunity in my field right now is API integrations into government systems. A lot of people don't realize that you have to have APIs in place in order to get AI to work. We need to get all the foundational integration work done first in order to kick off all these new initiatives with AI. That's what makes my current work so exciting and important. I was part of an AI pilot program in 2025 where we came up with 4 use cases on how to bring AI to the government and how we could actually implement it. This is really the hot topic right now, and being on the API team puts me right at the center of making these AI solutions possible for government agencies.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You can build the career you aspire to while also making a meaningful impact on others. Stay focused on your goals, continue learning, and remain confident in your abilities. Success is not only about personal achievement—it is also about using your experiences, knowledge, and leadership to inspire, support, and empower those around you. By leading with authenticity and purpose, you can create opportunities for yourself while helping others realize their potential as well.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Having been in this role for a little under six months, I am still learning the landscape. The biggest opportunity is gaining new knowledge, building relationships, and making an impact, while the main challenge is adapting to a fast-paced and evolving environment.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are hard work, dedication, and perseverance. These principles have guided me throughout my career and personal life, including my experience playing collegiate soccer at South Carolina State, where I was honored to be named to the All-Tournament Team in 2006. That experience reinforced the importance of discipline, teamwork, and striving for excellence in everything I do.
