Layla A. is a purpose-driven strategist, community advocate, and emerging leader in the fields of social impact and public service. A recent MBA graduate from the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University, Layla combines academic excellence with real-world expertise in policy and grant analysis, housing equity, and cross-sector collaboration. Currently serving as Program Supervisor at PATH, she leads the implementation of the Housing First Initiative, integrating ESG principles to ensure impactful and sustainable housing solutions across Southern California.

With a career rooted in civic service through county government, nonprofit leadership, and public health, Layla has honed skills in strategic planning, team building, leadership, and stakeholder engagement. Her background includes roles at the County of San Diego and KEYS Nonprofit, where she championed initiatives to promote community empowerment, wellness, and equity-driven policy implementation. As a former Blaisdell and Drucker Fellow 2024, Layla is committed to continuing her work at the intersection of business strategy and social good, empowering underserved communities through systems-level change.

I attribute my success to the unwavering support and guidance of mentors who consistently challenged me to grow and become the leader I am in new spaces.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Keep a growth mindset, let knowledge guide you, and don’t be afraid to give your all. Real personal growth happens when you begin to recognize and refine your own skill set.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Resilience and adaptability are essential when working in a field that is often shaped by the political climate. There will be times when priorities shift or progress feels slow, but staying grounded in your purpose and flexible in your approach will help you thrive. Just as importantly, create a nurturing environment for yourself that supports your growth and allows your skills to evolve. Focus on building a practical toolkit of experiences, relationships, and knowledge that will sustain you throughout your career.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A major challenge in the field today lies in restructuring around Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging. Shifting federal & corporate policies are forcing organizations to re-think leadership & mgt roles . At the same time, this transition presents a major opportunity: embedding belonging into leadership pipelines & governance frameworks allows organizations to promote equity-driven policy.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Values that guide me in my personal life include strength, ongoing personal development, and empowerment. I believe in showing up consistently through challenges, continuously growing through learning & reflection, and uplifting others along the way. These values ground and assist me with navigating both my personal and professional journey with authenticity and intention.
