About Leah
Leah Welch is a director and writer based in Los Angeles who has worked in the filmmaking industry since 2013. She earned her bachelor's degree in art, English, and sociology from Kingham College in Ohio in 2002, followed by an MFA in creative writing with a concentration in poetry in 2005, and a master's in investigative journalism from Point Park University in 2012. Welch has directed a feature film that she self-funded and has written projects such as Spoonful of Sugar, which premiered at Fantastic Fest. Her bread and butter work includes contract producing for vertical companies. She holds an offshore emergency medicine license, first aid certification, and a ham radio license. Welch belongs to the Agnes Varda Club and The Calvary film collective, and she previously volunteered for two years with Young Storytellers, mentoring fifth graders across LAUSD districts in screenwriting. She attributes her success to connections with like-minded cinephiles and advises young women entering the industry to be very specific when asking for what they want.
