About Leah
Leah Mencer is an Assistant Project Manager at Hilscher-Clarke Electric Company, where she supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of large-scale mission-critical data center projects. Her responsibilities span project controls, procurement, scheduling, documentation, change management, and coordination with engineers, subcontractors, vendors, field supervision, and operations teams. She plays an important role in ensuring critical electrical infrastructure systems, equipment, and materials remain aligned with project schedules and performance objectives.
Leah specializes in procurement and project startup, including coordinating material releases, tracking lead times, managing vendor and supplier relationships, resolving procurement issues, and supporting field operations. She utilizes platforms such as Bluebeam Revu, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Smartsheet to maintain project visibility, document control, reporting, and accountability. Her approach is grounded in education, work ethic, discipline, and problem solving, with a strong emphasis on taking initiative and continuously learning.
Before entering construction, Leah studied Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Ursuline College and played Division II college basketball. She ultimately chose to pursue hands-on experience in the construction industry, beginning her career with Hilscher-Clarke Electric Company as an intern. Her independent mindset and willingness to learn have helped her build a growing career in project management. Looking ahead, she aims to advance into a Project Manager role and eventually become a senior project management professional overseeing multiple projects.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to an independent mindset and a willingness to take initiative. I learned early that achieving my goals requires taking responsibility, figuring things out, and being open to learning along the way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received was to never be bored. Early in my career, I learned to take initiative by helping others, taking on additional responsibilities, and finding ways to make the team’s workload easier.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women entering the construction industry to create their own path, ask questions, and never be afraid to learn. With hard work, curiosity, and a willingness to grow, you can build the experience and confidence to eventually become a leader and mentor to others.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in mission-critical construction is coordinating complex projects with many moving parts while maintaining strict schedules, quality, and reliability. At the same time, advances in construction technology and the growing presence of women in the industry create exciting opportunities. I see this as a chance to continue developing my skills, embrace innovation, and help lead the next generation of construction professionals.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are continuous learning, strong work ethic, discipline, and problem-solving. I believe the way you approach one task reflects how you approach everything, and being willing to think critically, take initiative, and make an effort to solve problems is essential in both work and life.
