About Ledia
Ledia King serves as a Compliance Specialist in Sugar Hill, Georgia. With three years in this role and roughly four years overall in her field, she manages public works projects for multiple departments including parks and facilities, transportation, roads and drainage, and sanitation. Her responsibilities encompass overseeing projects from the bidding process through construction completion, ensuring accurate paperwork, and coordinating with project managers. King progressed to her current position after starting as a field inspector, moving into clerical work, and then GIS and road tech roles. She earned a degree in finance and economics, achieved first place in a regional case competition for her nonprofit concept, and was named to the president's list. In addition to her professional work, King recently founded the Rise Credit nonprofit, which offers special purpose credit programs at standard rates to individuals who have been incarcerated or faced hardships such as homelessness and substance abuse. She intends to establish an LGBT youth homelessness shelter in Georgia featuring a 90-day program that transitions participants to subsidized housing while building job history and credit. King advises young women entering her industry to stand their ground, remain ready to learn, and assert themselves effectively in a field with few women.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Ledia
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stick up for yourself and stand your ground. Always be ready to learn but assert yourself to get your point across. I work in a field where I can count on my hand how many women are really in it.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
People in management positions have been there 50-60 years and don't want to retire, making it hard to advance. Different generations struggle to work together with some resistant to computers and AI integration.
