Her Story

About Lenise

I am a woman of God first and foremost, and an ordained minister of the gospel. I serve as the youth leader of my church, Alpha Grace International, where we organize mission trips to help people around the world. We recently went on a mission trip to Jamaica called the Walk to Heal, where we visited 8 different schools and an orphanage, praying for children after the hurricane. It was myself and 4 other sisters in Christ, and we had a revival in one of the schools. We're planning to go back in September. I also do counseling, helping people all over the world from Jamaica and Zambia. We created an orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia, which now houses 26 children in a beautiful home. The person in charge is a young woman named Mbamwabi Mwanga who is only 23 years old, and she's doing a pretty good job taking care of all these children of different age ranges. I have years of experience as an operations manager and have done construction cleaning and rehab work. I'm currently doing my master's degree in project management. Everything I do is led by the Holy Spirit and focused on kingdom building, though I plan to go back to real estate eventually. What I do is not work to me because it's fun - we're not boring people, and doing the work of the Lord is so much fun.

Ten minutes with Lenise

01What do you attribute your success to?

Faith is what I attribute my success to, especially now. I think I am a bit strong-headed as well, and I push - I do a lot of push, I'm a pusher. I start, and there has to be an end, and the end has to be success. That's just where I am, that's how I am. I aim to be - everything that I do, it has to come out 100%, it has to make sense, and it has to be achieved. That's what I do, that's how I am in everything that I do.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Focus. Focus on the now, focus on what God has ordained. The first thing and foremost is God. Whatever you do, pray. Prayer is very important - pray for the answers. We can't do it by ourselves. God has ordained us for purpose, so we need to know what our purpose is, what are we here for on Earth. That's the first thing that we need to do. Once we understand what we do, go for it. The Bible says, favor that works is dead. Make sure that your faith and purpose align with God's purpose, not what you want, but what God wants for you. For me, God took me out of a lot - whatever I had before, I had a good income, et cetera. He said, no, that's not your purpose, so He changed everything about me. Now I'm ministry and kingdom, I do kingdom building. I would say anything faith-based, focus on your faith, focus on God, the creator, and then once you follow your purpose, everything will just go smoothly.
