Her Story

About Lesa

Lesa Voss founded her own media company in Springfield, Missouri, this year following her graduation in May with a public relations degree. After attending college right out of high school and later returning to complete her studies in her 50s, she draws on earlier professional experience as a makeup artist for Chanel, Lancome, and Lancaster, as well as owning and operating a salon. Voss is currently producing a 10-episode series titled Heart of the Ozarks, Everyone Has a Story, which features interviews with individuals sharing personal accounts ranging from entrepreneurial successes to challenges involving health, faith, and recovery. She collaborates with interns from local colleges on the project, noting that the younger generation has mentored her in social media and video editing. In addition to her media work, Voss values honesty and ethical practices and advocates for those on the autism spectrum, supporting her son's nonprofit RT's Suitcase that provides essential items to individuals aging out of foster care.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If you believe it, you can achieve it. If you work hard enough, nothing is impossible.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do it. Don't doubt yourself. You can do anything you set your mind to. You will have setbacks. But the more setbacks that you have, the closer you are to reaching your goal.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Putting together a show using interns from local colleges. The younger generation has become my mentors for navigating social media and video editing. I'm learning just as much from them as they are from me.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and being ethical. Also advocacy, especially for those on the autism spectrum.
