About Leslie
Leslie Anaya, M.Ed., NBCT, is a dedicated education leader and advocate with over a decade of experience in the field. Currently serving as a Program Supervisor IV at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, she brings her expertise in behavior management, trauma-informed care, educational equity, and special education to support youth within secure facilities. Leslie is a National Board Certified Exceptional Needs Specialist and was honored as the 2018 ESC Region 15 Teacher of the Year. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Schreiner University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Concordia University Texas.
Leslie has held numerous leadership roles in the education community, including founding president of the Texas National Board Coalition for Teaching and a board member for the Nevada National Board Professional Learning Institute. Her work has spanned local, state, and national levels, particularly in advancing teacher preparation and National Board Certification. A seasoned presenter and facilitator, she is passionate about empowering educators and creating systems that serve all youth with dignity and equity.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to maintain a strong work ethic and lead with passion—plant positive seeds daily, trust in your abilities, and remember that imposter syndrome is just a myth; you belong in every room you step into.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is navigating a male-dominated environment, especially as a woman in leadership—but it’s also an opportunity to lead with confidence, break barriers, and inspire others by staying passionate and committed to the work.
