Leslie Futral
Leslie Futral is a seasoned healthcare and education leader with nearly three decades of experience in organ donation and transplantation. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, she most recently served as Director of Hospital Engagement and Strategy at the Donor Network of Arizona, where she led efforts to strengthen hospital partnerships, improve donor program outcomes, and support families and clinicians through the organ donation process. Her career has focused on advancing systems that save and improve lives through coordinated, mission-driven healthcare delivery.
Throughout her career, Leslie has specialized in hospital engagement, clinical training, and donor program development. She has designed and implemented scalable education and quality assurance programs for healthcare teams, helping hospitals integrate organ donation workflows into critical care environments. Her work has included policy development, physician and staff training, and initiatives such as donation after circulatory death, as well as improving communication and EMR processes to enhance operational effectiveness. Earlier in her career, she also served as Program Services Director at the National Kidney Foundation, further deepening her expertise in transplant-related healthcare systems.
Leslie holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Northern Arizona University. She is known for her collaborative leadership style and her commitment to aligning hospitals, clinicians, and stakeholders around a shared mission of improving patient outcomes. Driven by purpose and long-term impact, she continues to focus on building sustainable healthcare systems that support donation, education, and compassionate care for patients and families.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, and learning and growing. As we all have to do it to have a successful career, I think being curious and open to learning more information and hard work have been key for me.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to work hard, continuously keep learning, and actively seek out mentors who can guide and challenge me throughout my professional growth.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering my industry to work hard, stay committed to continuous growth, and actively pursue new opportunities that challenge and develop their skills.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field right now is the rapid pace of change, particularly with the introduction and integration of artificial intelligence. Healthcare is evolving quickly, and adapting to these technological advancements while maintaining quality and consistency in care is a significant ongoing challenge.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me in both my work and personal life are integrity and honesty. I believe in consistently acting with transparency, accountability, and strong ethical principles in everything I do.
