Her Story
About Leslie
I have a degree in journalism and a degree in interior design, plus 19 years of entrepreneurial experience. My background is incredibly varied - I've worked in construction, consulting, advertising agency side, retail, finance and accounting, and different aspects across many industries. This varied experience translates well into our business at Your Biz Rules, where our last 35 clients have been across 17 industries. We always say our clients are really good at what they do, we just help them be better at business. There are business truths that span all industries, though there are niches and customizations - our law firms cannot do everything our home services firms can do, and our financial services firms are heavily restricted in what they can do. I apply the curiosity from my personal career to the professional career while still providing value. It's my playground, and when work is a true expression of yourself, that's when it's fun. We are living in our purpose, living in our vision, creating impact and legacy, and that connection is what makes everyone on the team excited for Mondays and excited about our work.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Fake it until you make it. In all seriousness, it's not to be cocky and not to be dishonest, but we can discount ourselves in so many ways. I've learned, and I always have to be reminding myself, that I belong in the room and to act like I own it. To do that with confidence is mostly there so that I'm open to the opportunity. I'm confident in how I speak and present, even if I'm nervous as all get out. It's just to walk in the room like I owned it. When you do that, it's been the result of some amazing things - interesting conversations, interesting relationships, and interesting opportunities. But if I've been too much of a wallflower, I would never have gotten that.
