Her Interview

Ten minutes with Leslie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being personable, extroverted, and genuinely interested in connecting with people. I have always enjoyed networking, meeting people from different professions, and bringing people together. My communications background has reinforced that people-oriented approach throughout my career.

I believe that bringing positive energy to a relationship can make a significant difference. I make an effort to speak with people as individuals rather than simply viewing them as clients or business contacts. Building genuine relationships and treating people with authenticity has been an important part of my professional success.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If you want to enter this type of field, I recommend developing a strong foundation in business and gaining specialized knowledge of the industry you want to pursue. Education is important, but practical experience is equally valuable.

In sports construction, for example, there are specialized materials, techniques, and processes that you need to understand. I would encourage young women to shadow experienced professionals and pursue internships or opportunities to learn directly from people working in the field. Just as a mechanic can specialize in working on race cars, professionals in sports construction need to develop expertise specific to sports courts and athletic facilities. Combining business knowledge with hands-on industry experience can help prepare you for success.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges to be honest is the weather. There is so much opportunity in this ever growing, ever changing industry, which is meant for all generations.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value full transparency, honesty, and to work to the best of your capabilities by yourself or with your team
