Her Story
About Leslie
Leslie Lucy is the Founder and Owner of Orange Tree Christian Preschools in Southern California, where she is dedicated to transforming early childhood education through faith-based learning, character development, and practical life skills. Born and raised in Southern California, Leslie discovered her natural ability to nurture and care for children at an early age. However, her professional journey initially took her into the medical field, where she worked as a surgical assistant until the age of 35. Her career path changed after hearing Bruce Wilkinson speak about his book, The Dream Giver, which encouraged her to recognize her God-given purpose and pursue her passion for early childhood education. Inspired by this realization, she studied Early Childhood Development at Saddleback College and began developing her vision for a new approach to preschool education.
In 2001, Leslie established Orange Tree Christian Preschools with a mission to provide children with a loving, supportive, and enriching introduction to formal education. She developed the Orange Tree Teaching System, an approach that combines classical education, consistent practice, repetition, and hands-on activities to build children's confidence, perseverance, independence, and essential life skills. Through this system, Leslie aims to equip children not only for academic success but also for the challenges of everyday life. Under her leadership, Orange Tree expanded to multiple locations, while its educational philosophy extended beyond the classroom to support teachers and parents as well. Leslie believes the teaching system was entrusted to her for a greater purpose and hopes to share it with preschools around the world, helping children discover their potential and make a positive impact on future generations.
Leslie attributes her success to the lasting influence of the church, her commitment to lifelong learning, and her dedication to seeking God's will and following His calling. Having grown up attending Saddleback Church, she considers its teachings, resources, and community important influences on her personal and professional development, and regards Rick Warren as a personal mentor. Her Christian faith continues to guide her vision for education and her belief that every child has a unique purpose. Beyond her leadership at Orange Tree, Leslie has volunteered for 20 years by conducting free parenting workshops through her church, recently partnering with her daughter to continue this work. As an educator, mentor, and advocate for families, she remains committed to nurturing children, empowering parents, and helping shape a generation equipped to fulfill its potential and contribute meaningfully to the world.
