Her Interview
Ten minutes with Leslie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm just a fighter. I don't give up. I want to know everything and learn everything, and know the truth. My curiosity is what I attribute my success to. Curiosity didn't kill this cat. Our ancestors sent us here to flip the script. I'm here to see the end of the movie, to see how everything works out.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
A gentleman who inherited my fitness clothing line said 'girl, you just gotta show them your tail lights.' That's actually the name of my fitness clothing line. You show them your taillights, then your rearview mirror, you just keep going. Show them your taillights, spin out. It's what you're made of.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow your intuition, and you don't have to know and figure everything out. All you have to do is start. Everything, small disciplines every day equals huge success. People are going to mock you, they're going to put you down, they're jealous of what you're doing. You don't have to know how to start. That's all it takes. Just do a little bit today.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My values are valuing myself enough to know that I've made it here at this point in my life to value my own boundaries and who I am in my orbit. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. Lead by example for my son. I say what I do. I do what I say, and I follow through. Everything we do here matters. We are significant, and we are accumulation of all the actions that we do, and we echo through time.
