Her Story

About Letisha

Letisha Mitchell is the Area Director of HR for a hospitality company in New Orleans, Louisiana. She brings more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality sector and 8.5 years in human resources. A non-traditional college graduate with a background in legal studies, Mitchell initially worked in hospitality before returning to school to pursue HR after being inspired by a class taught by a former VP of HR. She advanced rapidly from HR coordinator to manager and then to director within six months of joining her current organization. Mitchell is enrolled in a master's program and aspires to regional or VP-level roles. She emphasizes integrity, ethics, fairness, and perseverance in her work, often advocating for employees as a double minority in corporate spaces. Outside her role, she volunteers with STEMNOLA, Junior Achievement, Cafe Reconcile, NOCI, and U-Force NOLA to support youth development and workforce readiness.

Ten minutes with Letisha

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The sky is the limit. I moved up very quickly within my career, so don't let lack of experience dictate your future. Network, get in with the right people, get a mentor, take others along with you on the ride. Involve yourself in whatever field you're in, involve yourself into that community. Don't give up.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being a double minority as an African American woman in corporate America means working harder to prove yourself, often being the only one who looks like me in executive spaces. It's a blessing and a curse but builds comfort in those spaces through perseverance.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is number one. You are nothing without your word. I'm very ethical, by the book, fair to employees, and fight for them. Perseverance is another.
