Her Interview

Ten minutes with LeTonya

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my willingness to learn, listen, understand people, and use my experiences to support others. My curiosity about human behavior, combined with my advocacy and professional experiences, has helped me develop a compassionate and people-centered approach. I also believe that stepping forward, sharing what I know, and continuing to grow have been important parts of my journey.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to stop staying in the shadows and stop holding myself back. My cousin encouraged me to recognize the value of what I know and to make sure others have the opportunity to benefit from my knowledge and abilities. That advice has encouraged me to step forward and share what I can offer.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to absorb information from many different sources, including business coaching, spiritual counseling, and the experiences of people from different walks of life. Take what you learn, think critically about it, and adapt those ideas in a way that fits your own goals and business. Do not be afraid to learn from others and creatively apply what you discover.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see opportunities in continued training and education, particularly as technology and areas such as cyber training and the presence of organizations like the NSA create additional avenues for professional development. I also believe there is an opportunity to keep families involved through activities, partnerships, and community connections while people pursue these professional opportunities.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Listening, compassion, understanding, service, and advocacy are important values to me. I believe people deserve to be heard and supported without judgment. My experiences have reinforced the importance of being present for others, understanding the circumstances behind their experiences, and using my knowledge and skills to help people and families navigate challenges.
