Her Story
About Leydi Patricia
Leydi Patricia Puerto Bohorquez is a Utilities Infrastructure professional with five years of experience in electric distribution infrastructure and maintenance, currently based in San Francisco, California. She oversees infrastructure, maintenance, and capacity projects tied to electric distribution and new business development, with her core responsibilities spanning construction review, GIS oversight, and the coordination of permitting requirements across the City and County of San Francisco. Her educational foundation includes a Master of Science in Environmental Science from the University of San Francisco, building on undergraduate training in geological engineering from Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, and she credits mentors from her graduate studies with shaping her professional approach.
In her day-to-day work, Leydi is driven by a deep sense of responsibility, a commitment to clear and direct communication, and an openness to feedback as a tool for growth. She thrives on collaboration, working closely with engineers, planners, and public agencies to keep projects aligned and on schedule, and she views challenges not as obstacles but as opportunities to improve. One of the more demanding aspects of her role involves managing timing across multiple teams simultaneously while navigating the complexities of coordinating with government stakeholders — a balancing act she approaches with patience and persistence.
Leydi's career path reflects her belief in perseverance: she encourages others to keep pursuing opportunities even when the job search feels discouraging, noting that passion, energy, and authenticity often matter as much as technical qualifications. She is especially passionate about empowering women in her field, encouraging them to recognize their equal capability and value in an industry historically dominated by men. Above all, she attributes her professional success to her hardworking nature, her enthusiasm for the work itself, and her ongoing dedication to learning and self-improvement.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Leydi Patricia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my character and my strong work ethic. I approach every job with genuine passion, and I make it a priority to enjoy what I do rather than simply going through the motions. Continuous learning matters deeply to me — I love expanding my knowledge, and I believe that combination of passion and a commitment to learning is what has carried me forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to keep trying, because eventually a door will open. Searching for the right job can be difficult and discouraging, and it often takes applying far more times than you'd expect before someone gives you a chance. What I've learned is that success isn't only about technical skill — it's also about the energy, passion, and personality you bring to an interview and to the table more broadly.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this field that being a woman doesn't make you any less capable than the men you work alongside — you can perform at the same level, or higher. We are smart, capable, and just as strong in this work. My advice is to never let yourself feel diminished simply because the industry is male-dominated; instead, own your value and let your work speak for your ability.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge I face is timing — specifically, coordinating effectively across multiple teams while also managing interactions with public agencies. Balancing these moving parts to keep projects on schedule is one of the most demanding aspects of my role.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me most are responsibility, openness to feedback, and straightforward communication. I also place a high value on embracing challenges rather than avoiding them, staying cooperative with my team, and working collaboratively to find solutions together.
