About Leyla

Leyla Murshudova is a procurement and supply chain professional with more than a decade of experience spanning strategic sourcing, international purchasing, supplier management, and contract negotiation. Originally from Azerbaijan, she began her career as an English teacher before transitioning into supply chain work, eventually building expertise in vendor negotiations, transportation logistics, and documentation. Over the course of her career, she has sourced critical materials during periods of global disruption, managed multi-outlet food and beverage procurement across diverse international cuisines, and consistently found ways to reduce costs while maintaining quality and supplier reliability.

Three years ago, Leyla made the bold decision to relocate to the United States, and she has since resettled in Florida after previously living in Boston. In a professional culture where she was often expected to stay quiet, she instead chose to advocate for herself, and that same resilience has shaped her approach to every new challenge she has faced. While rebuilding her career in a new country, she has taken on varied roles, including work supporting children's behavioral development, all while staying committed to her long-term goal of returning fully to procurement and supply chain work.

Fluent in Azerbaijani, English, and Turkish, with working knowledge of additional languages, Leyla holds a bachelor's degree in Translation from Khazar University with a focus on Arabic. She is now expanding her technical toolkit through study in data analytics and business intelligence, including Excel, Python, and dashboard platforms like Google Looker Studio, with the goal of pairing her procurement instincts with stronger data-driven decision-making. Driven by continuous learning and an unwillingness to quit, Leyla is focused on translating her global procurement background into renewed opportunities in the U.S. market.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Leyla

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my determination and refusal to give up, even when circumstances are difficult. I carry a fighting spirit in everything I do, and that persistence has carried me through building a new career and a new life in a different country.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple: never give up. Nothing is truly impossible as long as you want it enough and are willing to keep fighting for it. That fighting spirit lives in me, and I believe it's what any young woman needs to carry with her as she builds her career.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see a major opportunity in combining traditional procurement expertise with data analytics and business intelligence. By strengthening my skills in tools like Excel, PivotTables, Python, and BI dashboards, I'm working to use data more effectively to support smarter purchasing and sourcing decisions.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Continuous learning and resilience matter most to me. I'm motivated by new challenges and opportunities to grow, and I try to bring practical, solutions-focused thinking to every problem so that I can deliver real value while continuing to develop myself professionally.
