Her Story

About Lezlie

I actually just had a love of working with young people and students, so I went into education and taught for a few years and one of my principals said, hey, you'd make a good administrator, and so after 9 years of teaching, I went into administration and actually finished the last 32 as a school administrator. Everything from Athletic Director, and then retired as superintendent. I've received so many recognitions, statewide recognitions. One of the biggest accomplishments would be in retirement I finished my EDD. I was principal of the year, a high school principal year. I got recognized by Governor Hochum as Corianne Award for Community Involvement. Probably my biggest thing I'm proud of is I was actually passionate about my profession for all 43 years.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lezlie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to great mentors and being blessed to work in a school system with women leaders early on. I was willing to listen and learn, not be judgmental, and navigate situations with integrity. This built my confidence in leadership, opened doors, and allowed me to lead authentically.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Surround yourself with people who believe in you, are honest with you, and have a diverse and inclusive attitude. Do not be fearful. Try new things. Sometimes failing is the biggest gift you can have to success.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Networking for women is still not as easy as it should be. It is really important that women support women and give them opportunities, especially those with experience reaching back to pull others up and expose them to different opportunities and people.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

100% integrity and being authentic. I am a very inclusive person, drawn to people with impeccable integrity and authenticity regardless of their position.
