Her Story

About Lian

After a long career in corporate America that ended following an acquisition, I wanted to do something that had meaning and leave my son a legacy of something I felt was meaningful, so I got involved in the nonprofit sector and entered healthcare. I started in behavioral health, working as a director at a foundation for children with autism, where I spent quite a few years in that space. From there, I tried home healthcare in the senior segment, and I'm currently in the senior space but in a much broader realm. Today, I'm responsible for overseeing marketing and sales and developing all our new territories at CCMS. We do chronic care management for the severely ill senior population with access to care and care at home - people who are not necessarily bed-bound but have challenges, whether socioeconomic or health-wise limitations, in accessing care. We go to them with skilled professionals - doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners. What I find most rewarding is seeing the results when you take someone who has not had access to care and has been neglected, and you see them thriving and aging in place to the best possible conditions. Sometimes it's just going in and talking to somebody - it doesn't always have to do with the medical aspect, it's really just about going in the home and talking to someone that maybe just needs to see somebody. I'm very results-driven, having come from the corporate sector, but this work is so much more because I get to make real connections with people.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Follow your heart. Do something you love - if you love what you do, it's really never work. Find something you love, something you believe in, and surround yourself with good people. Above all, for me, it's about chasing God. I always remember the words on a t-shirt my son gave me: Faith, Not Fear. Those are words to live by. I think when your heart's in it, with whatever it is you do, it makes a difference, and when you see the difference, when you see results, that's what matters.
