Her Story

About Lianny

I have been in the insurance industry for over 20 years, starting when I was 18 years old as a switchboard receptionist at one of the home offices for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Miami, Florida, where I worked with individual and group health insurance. After getting my license, I transitioned to homeowners insurance and flood insurance on the personal lines side. When that company went under in Florida, I moved into commercial trucking insurance, building on my personal line CSR license. In 2018, I relocated my family to North Carolina, and in 2020, I obtained my 220 agent-producer license. Since June 2024, I have been working as a commercial transportation account manager. In this role, I work with 3 producers and service all their policies, take care of renewals, and shop them out with different markets to offer insureds the best possible rating on their insurance. I handle daily changes such as adding or removing trucks and drivers, answer questions about coverages and cargo, and deal with certificates. I earned my CISR certification at my previous employment. My proudest accomplishment has been staying within the industry for over 20 years and continuously learning along the way. I truly love what I do and can't picture myself doing anything other than insurance. I build strong relationships with my customers on a daily basis and focus on keeping them happy.

Ten minutes with Lianny

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Not to give up. It seems hard in the beginning because you slowly start working your way up, but it does take time. A lot of people have asked me how I got to where I am today, and I tell them I started behind a phone, just answering phone calls, and I asked what can you show me to help me move along the way, and they did. It's a very exciting industry. Like I said, it will never go away, and I can't picture myself doing anything other than insurance, to be honest.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Probably the markets and the ever-changing guidelines that they have. The pricing going up, especially for truckers, which keep the world running, in my opinion, because we wouldn't have commodities and things like that if it wasn't for them living out on the road. That's been our biggest challenge, has just been the rates. A lot of truckers are going out of business because they just can't afford to keep their business running.
