Her Interview
Ten minutes with Libby
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my continued growth and commitment to the affordable housing and property management field. I have been in the industry for seven years, including five years focused on low-income housing compliance and two years with my current company. I began my career as a leasing consultant and gradually progressed into compliance, developing a deeper interest in property management and regulatory compliance along the way. Although compliance was not my original long-term career goal, I have continued to grow professionally, take on new responsibilities, and build my knowledge and experience within the field.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Some of the best career guidance I have received has come from excellent mentors who have supported and encouraged my professional growth. Jennifer Brewerton, a mentor from a previous employer, and Maureen Wilmot, a leader at my current company, have both been important role models and sources of support throughout my career. Their guidance has reinforced for me the importance of learning from experienced professionals, building strong relationships, and continuing to develop professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the affordable housing and property management industry is to always be involved and actively build relationships within the profession. I became a member of the Women's Affordable Housing Network and participate in both the Colorado and Minnesota chapters, which provide opportunities to connect with other women in property management and affordable housing through events and networking. I encourage the next generation to get involved, expand their professional networks, and take advantage of opportunities to learn from others in the industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in my field is being able to continually grow. Affordable housing compliance is a field where there are always opportunities to expand your knowledge, strengthen your skills, and take on new responsibilities. I am committed to continuing my professional development and finding ways to grow within the industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I am very passionate about my work and take pride in the responsibilities I have each day, particularly processing and reviewing files for low-income housing programs across multiple sites, conducting audits to ensure compliance with federal requirements, and collaborating with site staff. Continuous learning, dedication, and service are important to me, both professionally and personally. I also value giving back to my community through my volunteer work with Red Rocks Church, including Home Sweet Homes, Feeding the Hungry, Shoes for Souls, and God Behind Bars. Outside of work, I enjoy reading self-help and leadership books, spending time with my family and our black Lab–pit mix, Penny, and enjoying the outdoors in Colorado.
