Her Story

About Lilly

I started this journey at UIUC where I was in a PhD program, but I decided to move into the field of business and transitioned to Harvard for AI research. At Harvard, I worked as a research fellow for about 2 years, focusing on artificial intelligence and decision making. During that time, I started a side project developing AI tools to help students work on their application process. The project grew significantly and helped more than a thousand students get into college. I received so much positive feedback and user growth that I decided to transform it into a full-time startup. I quit my job at Harvard and have been working full-time on this project for about 2 years now. Last year, I successfully raised about $1 million in funding for the project. Currently, I work on the strategy, the product, and the fundraising, and we're focused on our go-to-market strategy to scale up the project. Our company is backed by Harvard Innovation Lab and Beta University, and we serve as an industry partner for future innovation and education software at Harvard Education Supporting.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I started this project because I want to try to build more opportunities for students who don't have enough funding to hire a consultant or an agency for their college applications. That's the thing I think I want to see - more education equity. I was inspired to get into this field because my side project helped more than a thousand students get into college, and I received a lot of positive feedback after that. Seeing the impact on students who otherwise wouldn't have access to these resources is what drives me and what I consider my most notable professional achievement.
