About Lily

Lily Duke is an accomplished Operations Manager, Production Manager, Stage Manager, Lighting/Sound L3 professional with more than three decades of experience in the motion picture and live entertainment industries. Since beginning her career in 1989, she has developed extensive expertise in production operations, stage management, lighting, sound, rigging, and technical execution. Throughout her career, Lily has managed complex productions, coordinated cast and crew, overseen vendors and contracts, and supported large-scale entertainment projects with a focus on safety, efficiency, and exceptional execution. Her experience includes working in demanding technical environments where she has often been one of the few women performing high-climbing rigging and advanced production responsibilities.

In addition to her entertainment career, Lily is deeply committed to emergency preparedness, safety, and community service. She serves as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member and has completed FEMA training, including Incident Command System courses, emergency management programs, and search and rescue training. Following the impact of Hurricane Katrina, Lily demonstrated outstanding leadership by establishing and operating multiple first responder camps that provided food, water, and essential resources to affected communities. Through her industry connections, organizational skills, and dedication to service, she helped coordinate critical support efforts and later participated in search and rescue operations.

Lily’s career is defined by resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning. She studied at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale before continuing her education at Guilford Technical Community College in North Carolina, strengthening her creative and technical foundation. As a woman who has navigated challenges and barriers in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Lily credits her success to perseverance, teamwork, family values, and the determination to never accept limitations. She encourages the next generation of women entering entertainment and production to learn every department, build meaningful professional relationships, and maintain integrity throughout their careers.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lily

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, determination, and the ability to rise above challenges. Throughout my life, I have often been underestimated, but I have used those moments as motivation to exceed expectations and prove what is possible. Moving to the United States from the Philippines, I faced challenges including cultural barriers, prejudice, and gender biases, experiences that strengthened my character and fueled my drive to succeed. I have always believed in treating everyone with respect and equality, and I am grateful for the support of incredible friends, mentors, and colleagues who have guided and inspired me along the way. Their encouragement, combined with my perseverance and commitment to continuous growth, has helped shape the person and professional I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to never take no for an answer. I have learned that challenges and obstacles are often opportunities to find new solutions, grow stronger, and continue moving forward. Staying persistent, believing in my abilities, and remaining committed to my goals have helped me overcome barriers and achieve success throughout my career. I encourage others to stay determined, advocate for themselves, and continue pursuing their vision even when faced with setbacks.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the entertainment industry is to remain curious, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning. While it is important to develop expertise in your chosen area, gaining knowledge and experience across all departments will make you a stronger, more well-rounded professional and provide a deeper understanding of the industry as a whole. I also encourage building positive relationships and maintaining professionalism throughout your career, as the entertainment industry is highly connected and the relationships you develop can have a lasting impact. Treat everyone with respect, avoid burning bridges, and always approach every opportunity with integrity, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges I have faced in my field have evolved throughout my career. Earlier in my journey, being a woman and Asian in a traditionally male-dominated industry presented obstacles that required resilience, determination, and perseverance to overcome. Today, I continue to navigate new challenges related to age and physical perception, as assumptions can sometimes be made based on appearance rather than experience and capability. I have learned that expertise, dedication, and work ethic are not defined by age or size, and I continue to prove that seasoned professionals bring tremendous value to any team. One of the opportunities I see is the ability to challenge outdated perceptions and advocate for greater recognition of women at every stage of their careers. My goal is to continue breaking barriers, inspiring others, and demonstrating that passion, skill, and experience are powerful assets in the workplace.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are family, teamwork, and mutual respect. In the entertainment industry, success is never achieved alone; it requires collaboration, trust, and a strong commitment from every member of the team. I believe that supporting one another, recognizing each person’s contributions, and working together toward a shared goal creates the foundation for outstanding results. I carry these values into every project and relationship, always striving to create an environment built on respect, reliability, and a true sense of community.
