Her Interview
Ten minutes with Linda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance, continuous growth, and my willingness to invest in myself and others. Completing my master's degree and earning my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt while navigating significant personal challenges demonstrated the importance of staying committed to my goals and continuing to develop my skills.
My involvement in leadership programs, particularly NALHE's Ascender program, has also played an important role in my professional growth. These experiences have expanded my leadership perspective, strengthened my confidence, and connected me with mentors and peers who continue to encourage and challenge me. I also believe in giving back by mentoring and supporting younger women as they develop their own careers.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering HR, compensation, and healthcare leadership to build strong analytical and technology skills, particularly in Excel and emerging AI tools. Developing the ability to analyze information, identify patterns, and solve problems effectively can create a strong foundation for success in this field.
I would also encourage them to actively build their professional networks. Organizations such as WorldatWork and the Texoma Association of Total Rewards provide valuable opportunities to learn, connect with experienced professionals, and grow professionally. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there—schedule coffee chats, ask questions, build genuine relationships, and seek opportunities that challenge you to grow.
Most importantly, develop your problem-solving skills and remain open to learning. Take calculated risks, pursue opportunities that stretch you, and surround yourself with people who will encourage your development.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the key opportunities in healthcare compensation is developing effective pay programs that help organizations attract and retain talented employees while responding to the unique needs of the healthcare environment. In pediatric healthcare in particular, compensation strategies must support the organization's ability to compete for and retain skilled talent.
There are also significant opportunities to use data, analytics, process improvement, and emerging technologies to make compensation practices more efficient and informed. My background in compensation, organizational development, project management, and Lean Six Sigma allows me to approach these challenges through both a strategic and process-focused lens.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value continuous growth, leadership development, collaboration, and meaningful professional relationships. I believe in contributing to the growth of others, creating opportunities for people to develop, and being part of professional communities where people encourage and support one another.
I also value resilience, service, and taking opportunities to learn and grow. My experiences through NALHE and its Ascender program have reinforced the importance of community, mentorship, servant leadership, and giving back. I strive to carry those values into my work and into the way I support other professionals, particularly women developing their careers.
