Her Interview
Ten minutes with Linda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think the most thing that I'm most proud of is that I connect people. I'm not just out there trying to sell my own product, but I'm out there trying to help the young people that are in the position now that I used to be in. A lot of them are like a deer in headlights, and if I can just give them one little tip, or direct them in one little way, or connect them with a company that they might spend months and months trying to find the right person, I'm more than happy to do that. I didn't really have as much of that in my own career. I had to do it the hard way, and it really sets you back because finding your contact or some company in your industry that you want to connect with that really needs your goods and services, that's the major part of the battle. I would really have to say that my most valuable asset that I have to offer and that I've achieved along the way is that ability to see where it's needed and to jump in and help when I can. I'm a major encourager. I would have to say that that's my best God-given gift. I'm a very good listener, and when I'm talking to somebody and I can see that they're struggling in whatever area that is, I really know how to encourage people, and I see the light go off in their brain when I'm talking to them, when they're really kind of down and discouraged and they want to give up almost sometimes. I've always been super good at that, and it's just one of my God-given talents that I like to use in every way, shape, and form. I also think that my biggest thing in life is that I was the oldest of 5 children growing up, and I come from a lower-middle-class family where my mom and dad were both blue-collar workers. From a young age, I had to get a job, and I've been working since I was young, as soon as I could, babysitting, shoveling walks, mowing lawns, cleaning houses. I haven't stopped since. I have a real drive behind me to make sure that no matter what happens, if the sky falls today, I'm gonna get out there and find a way to pay my bills. I believe in God, God is my source, and that's how I get everything in my life. It's not really me that does it, it's Him that does it through me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would first of all have to ask her if she's willing to work hard and put in the effort, because it's a male-dominated industry. I would say first, you need to be willing to put in the work in every area. Are you a people person? Are you good with cold calling? Are you good with going to events and meeting new people? Those would be the first questions that I would ask her. What interests you about this field? What brought you here? Is this really what you want to do, or are you just trying to pay your bills? And then if she says yes, I would say, okay, here's where I would recommend you start. You get involved in these certain groups that I can help you with. I'll invite you as my guest the first time you go, and then you decide if you like it, and if you do, I would suggest you join these groups and get more involved. And who is your target audience? Here's what I would suggest that you begin with, and I would give her some leads, maybe even a list.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Money is not my drive. It's really not. It's helping others in any way I can see they need help. That's the driving force. I'm at a place in my life now where it's not about the money. I could make a lot more money for sure right now if I wanted to, but I like getting up in the morning and not having somebody bombarding me with reports and meetings and my boss calling me every 10 minutes. I'm in a place now where I have complete trust from my boss and my company, and they let me do whatever I want, however I want, because they can see that it works for me. They give me complete autonomy and freedom to do it the way that works best for me, and it does generate results. I just love that. I'm not making as much money as I can, but to me, it's the peace of mind that I have and loving what I do. It's so exciting, it's so wonderful, that it makes me never want to retire. I love connecting people and helping them along the way. I didn't really have as much of that in my own career. I had to do it the hard way, and finding your contact or some company in your industry that you want to connect with that really needs your goods and services, that's the major part of the battle. I just love, love, love connecting people and helping them along the way. I believe in God, God is my source, and that's how I get everything in my life. It's not really me that does it, it's Him that does it through me. I just love to pass that along to anybody that feels like they don't know where to start. There's not enough people out there that are willing to help. They just want to hoard their success and their greed, and they don't want to share it or help anybody. That's not the way.
